It's a Presidential tradition to pardon a turkey every Thanksgiving. As decisions
go, this one is usually a no-brainer.
But this year is different. I want to
give this decision the thought it deserves. I convened a group of experts to study
the issue and provide some recommendations.
I asked them: What is the strategy? What is the goal? How does this fit in with my
Presidential Agenda?
I even considered waiting until after Thanksgiving
to make this decision.
After much deliberation, I have decided AGAINST pardoning
the turkey this year. Instead, I will offer it up as a public option for an American
family lacking Thanksgiving plans.
Happy Thanksgiving to all (except, of course
for that turkey...)
