Why Specter Really Left the GOP

As you know by now, Senator Arlen Specter left the Republican party after 29 years. He gave this reason:   “Since my election in 1980, as part of the Reagan Big Tent, the Republican party has moved far to the right".

That's putting it mildly.

In the midst of all the crises we face today: the outbreak of the H1N1 flu virus and all the uncertainty that brings; the economic crisis; our country at war; and on and on, I am continually surprised by the lack of cooperation and outright hostility coming from the Republican Party.

When I was running for election, I vowed to pursue a new spirit of bipartisanship. I am sorry to say that I have failed in this endeavor. But it is not for lack of trying. Time and again the Republican leadership has fallen back on their old familiar ways.

As a perfect example, I am posting this You Tube video released just a couple days ago by the House Minority Leader, Republican Congressman John Boehner.   Pathetic.
